Panic! at the disco

L’histoire de Panic at the Disco s’amorce à Las Vegas quand Ryan Ross, alors âgé de 12 ans, reçoit une guitare à Noël. Ne voulant pas être en reste, son ami Spencer Smith demande une batterie à ses parents afin que le duo puisse commencer à jouer ensemble. Après s’être fait la main sur des chansons de Blink-182, le duo recrute ses amis Brent Wilson (basse) et Brendon Urie (chant) afin de former un groupe.

C’est ainsi qu’est créé Panic at the Disco et le groupe commence dès lors à répéter dans le salon de la grand-mère de Spencer pour ensuite commencer à composer des chansons. Très rapidement, le groupe attire l’attention de Pete Wetnz de Fall Out Boy qui convainc Fueled by Ramen d’offrir un contrat à Panic at the Disco.

Peu après cette signature de contrat, le groupe commence rapidement à gravir les échelons forçant Spencer et Brent à terminer leurs études secondaires par correspondance. Brendon, pour sa part, va à l’école le jour, pratique le soir et réussit de peine et de misère à terminer son cours secondaire. Quant à Ryan, il abandonne l’université à la fin de sa première année, ce qui cause une sérieuse mésentente entre lui et sa famille.

C’est ainsi que les quatre amis plient bagage en direction de College Park, Maryland, afin d’enregistrer un premier album. En studio, le groupe s’inspire du sens de la mélodie de Third Eye Blind, de la théâtralité de Queen et des textes de Counting Crows pour créer des textures sonores bien à eux. Entre temps, les chanson de Panic at the Disco attire les jeunes fans de punk-rock dans Internet et lors de leur retour à Las Vegas pour donner un concert, plus de 200 fans se pointent. Les parents des jeunes, particulièrement le père de Ryan, réalisent que le groupe est bien plus qu’une passe-temps pour leurs fils qui lancent « A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out » en septembre 2005.
